Miraculous!

Sounds crazy, I know, but since I've been doing the five rites (it's a series of exercises), I have felt even better than before - and I already felt quite healthy and good. I am dedicated or maybe addicted to doing them every night now - I only do three to ten repetitions of each one, seems to be enough to make a difference. Sent my daughter a book and she claims it's made a giant difference for her too. Got the idea from my son who's very fit and he does them daily.

A wonderful companion to the Ancient Secret of the Fountain of Youth.

It's great to have this on my Kindle as well. I bought the hardcover and the Kindle version both. I buy copies of the original Ancient Secret of the Fountain of Youth to give to friends and relatives. The 5 rites are a great way to stay in shape. 30 days after open heart surgery (I didn't ask the doctor if it was okay), I went back to doing the 5 rites, and I am stronger and healthier than I've ever been. At nearly 73 I feel healthier and stronger than I was at 35 years of age. Its a matter of exercise of course, but also nutrition and spiritual understanding as well. I've been using the original Fountain of Youth rites for the past 25 years. I don't know that I could pass for 50, but my doctor says I could. I'm aiming for passing for 35. The rites themselves take about half an hour a day to do. They are sort of like yoga, which I also practice.

My Observations So Far

I came across this book while searching for some good anti-aging stuff. After reading reviews here I got its copy from local library (both part 1 & part 2 of this book). I was amazed with the idea of reversing the aging process and story of Col Bradford was captivating.

However, as follower of eastern philosophy and yoga , idea of stopping the aging process was not new to me but getting the right stuff (procedure, food etc.) is almost impossible.

Anyway, here's my observation:

Started doing 5 rites on Monday, Oct 5th 2010 (evening)

Doing these 5 rites everyday ( 3 reps) once in morning and once in the evening.

Feeling more energetic and flexible.

Oct 10th ,2010 went to park and a shopping mall that kept me walking & standing for almost four hours.

Earlier, whenever I used to stand and walk for this much of time I used to feel tiredness/ache at the bottom part of my back that demanded to sit for a while.

AMAZINGLY! I did not feel that ache or discomfort in my back that day. Neither , I felt urge to sit down and get some rest. I was tired but not exhausted as I used to be before.

I will keep doing these wonderful rites and keep posting my experiences here.

BTW, has anyone noticed any changes in their hairs ? reverse-graying, hair re-grow etc? i am interested to know beneficial effects of these rites on hairs and if the graying can be reversed by them.

About the Author

Thomas R. Hoerr retired after leading the New City School in St. Louis, Missouri, for 34 years and is now the Emeritus Head of School. He teaches at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and holds a PhD from Washington University in St. Louis. Hoerr has written four books—Becoming a Multiple Intelligences School (2000), The Art of School Leadership (2005), School Leadership for the Future (2009), and Fostering Grit (2013)—and more than 100 articles, including "The Principal Connection" column in Educational Leadership. Hoerr is an enthusiastic but poor basketball player.

Powerful read for all

This reading is powerful. As you take in Hoerr's ideas, you realize, these ideas just make sense. How often are we looking for depth rather than breadth? This text is a great read for any educator who wants to focus on developing true, meaningful character education. The introduction explains why these 5 traits are really success skills. Hoerr helps you see that each skill, (e.g. empathy, self-control, integrity, embracing diversity, and grit), is really a combination of other associated terms. The approach for teaching the formative five is to show how any educator, at any level, can connect the curriculum with these skills. Hoerr sets the tone that this teaching should be integrated. These ideas are not rocket science, but they are reasonable, attainable, and necessary.
The overall layout of this book made the reading very easy to follow. Chapter 1 focuses on where our future is headed and why our students need these skills more than ever. Chapters 2-6 define the skill, provide a survey for your own self-assessment, explain the steps for teaching this skill, lay out the challenges and strategies for teaching, pinpoint what lessons and resources are best used for elementary and middle/high school teachers, and provides a list of trade books that support the skill. The final chapter wraps-up any loose ends. One of my favorite sections is the appendix. Hoerr shares letters he used as a principal, along with the surveys, which can immediately be used in any school setting.
This book was energizing. It gave me ideas for how to layout the year's professional development and teachings for our students and teachers throughout the year. This is a great read for a college student, brand new teacher, teacher leader, professor of education, or anyone looking to improve the culture we live in.

The Way Love Hurts was one of those books I couldn't put ...

The Way Love Hurts was one of those books I couldn't put down! I was so wrapped up in Dani and Loyed's story I didn't want it to end! Loyed is so hard and cold because of what he has had to deal with and the responsibility on his shoulders. I love watching the layers peal off of your alpha male (anti-heros) and Dani... What can I say she is tough and resilient and been through so much hurt. Her love for Loyed is strong and lasting. Let's not forget Jamie-Lee, boy is she something else. I like how you wrote her character as she was not an angelic angel. Most 4-5 yr old children are not Angels.. Lol
I love a book that stirs my emotions, and yours seem to bring all of mine to the front. Your characters are flawed and broken at times, but I love the obsessive love and dark emotions they have. The inner turmoil Dani and Loyed have was amazingly written and I look forward to more from you. This book had a little bit of everything. Lots of hot sex, dirty sex, love/hate, pain, suspense and dark and gritty emotion. This is not a hearts and flowers romance so be warned...I loved this book and can't wait for more of E.L Beth's books!

Solid broad-spectrum view

This semester, I took a Population/Community Ecology class, and this was the book recommended by our professor. Community Ecology in general covers a LOT of ground, so I didn't expect the book to have more than a chapter or two on any one area, but the book does manage to give a surprisingly solid overview of com. eco. as a whole and goes rather in-depth on all the important concepts. Popular population interaction models are explained then thoroughly picked apart, theories and hypotheses are equally presented and attacked, and the overall usefulness and real-world-application of community ecology research and modeling is heavily stressed and explained. Examples are cited clearly, and the explanations the author gives are clear and easy to understand without being vague or feeling brushed-over. This book surprised me in its depth and even after completing the class, I retained much more than I expected to, and I must admit it was a very interesting and (dare I say?) fun read. This is definitely a book I'm keeping for my personal archives.

Overall, this is a wonderful resource for anyone who is studying ecology as a whole, but especially for people in the environmental field who will be involved in conservation, sustainable harvesting, or any other job where populations have to be monitored or managed. Don't let the childish-looking cover fool you! This book means business, and will help you GREATLY in understanding and preserving natural systems.

"Necessarily Quirky"

I use this text in a student-led graduate seminar.

In the Preface, the author notes that when writing a community ecology text, it is a challenge to determine what to leave in, and what to leave out. This single observation sets the stage for this textbook. For the material "left in" the selected topics are covered quite well. Pairwise interactions, metapopulations, metacommunities, and food webs are all well-covered. The author traces the development of ideas, from the "classic papers" to current thinking.

The material "left out" will be frustrating but idiosyncratic for any community ecologist. I would have like to seen more treatment of assembly rules and community phylogenetics. Topics that associated with plant community ecology, such as direct and indirect gradient analysis, are left out. Likewise, current thinking in microbial community ecology is not explored.

I am happy with the text and will use it again. However, the coverage is necessarily quirky. Since this is community ecology, quirky is okay.

I needed this book for a college class. I really enjoyed reading it, and I made a A in the class. I returned it through the Amazon textbook program to recoup some of my money but it's worth keeping if this is your area of expertise.

Concise, practical investment strategy

Excellent, practical, concise advice . Dividend investing is an overlooked strategy, and the author makes a very powerful case for why it's the safest way to invest in stock market. It's not a get rich quick scheme , and it's not about speculating which stocks will double their values . It's about investing in stable, historically high-performing companies that pay their earnings out to shareholders , companies like Johnson & Johnson, Coca-Cola, and others. I'm already employing the strategy in my own investments, but this book gave me a lot of confidence that I'm absolutely doing the right thing. It is short, but there's every bit as much content as a much longer book.

Dividend paying stocks over managed funds

Just recently moved from a managed brokerage firm to a discount brokerage firm.
This book just confirms my thoughts on investing in individual stocks versus brokerage advised mutual funds. Each time the market has fluctuated I have noticed my stocks did not go down nearly as much as the mutual funds have. I have been investing for 25+ years and have both mutual funds and dividend paying stocks. After reading this book I am going to be taking my money out of managed mutual funds and put it in the Dividend Kings, Dividend Aristocrats or dividend champions stocks that have consistently paid dividends for years. Thank you for clarifying my thoughts about individual stocks. My stocks have more than quadrupled over the mutual funds which I have had to use the proceeds to live on in my retirement. By building this base in good quality stocks I feel that I can make my own mutual fund cheaper than the brokerage that charges so much in fees each year. I have found they take their money whether I make a dime or not which really stinks.
